Suspension – Genetic Manipulation

When I think of genetics, my first reaction is DNA. It seemed, therefore, most appropriate that I would base this design on a strand of DNA.

Suspension - Genetic Manipulation

I have used the plastic mesh made for gardens for the base of the design as it comes in a roll so was already pre-tensioned for the spiral shape I needed. Coloured ribbon is threaded through the mesh at intervals to resemble the various DNA strands required for a genetic code.

Attached to the mesh at various points are examples of genetic manipulation in horticulture today – purple carrot, corn cob, wheat, striped dahlia, striped rose.

No placing for this design – horticultural material is not predominant in the design. It needed to have these genetically modified material cover at least two thirds of the backing mesh.
